Resolution...

31 December 2010

Resolution n. 1 the act or result of resolving something 2 a thing determined upon; decision as to future action 3 a resolute quality of mind 4 a formal statement of opinion or determination by an assembly

So that is the proper definition of resolution, according to Webster's Dictionary.

Usually, Travis and I don't make New Year's Resolutions. They always seem like that thing you say your going to do and either one of two things happen. Either you are successful for a few weeks maybe even a few months and then fail or you just straight up fail. So they seem pretty meaningless for the most part. Funny enough, a few weeks ago I brought up to Travis that I had an idea for us as a New Years Resolution. He gave me that "Look". You know the one that basically says, "Seriously"! I then told him that I thought that in 2011 we should...

He thought for a second, we talked about it thoroughly and we agreed. This would be our motto for living in 2011.

So are you asking what is LIVE SIMPLY? Well, for a while now we have taken steps to change our lives and the way we live. Simple steps such as knowing what we eat and where it comes from, lessening our carbon footprint on this Earth and educating the kids on the importance of perserving nature, just to name a few. We have tried to make our lives more about appreciating the small things and not needing the big things so much. Understanding the difference between a "Want" and a "Need". So Live Simply is just taking all that a step further.

We hope to cut back on the things we don't need so much that were perhaps an impulse. We hope to continue to enjoy the simple things in life. Our camping, hiking, canoeing and geocaching and our quality time together Teaching the kids the value of a dollar and that we don't always have to buy silly things that make us feel better for only a moment and then become more junk. Travis and I have decided that every time we buy something we are making a vote. When we spend our money we are deciding how far an item has to travel to get to us and what the cause and affects are on us, our enviroment and our lifestyle. We believe that doing very simple things can declutter our lives and help us appreciate what we really need.

So hopefully over the next 12 months we can master the are of being better stewards of this beautiful country of ours. We can enjoy the simple pleasures for life, nature and the kids. We can make better choices about what we buy and when we buy it. We hope that all of these things combined will leave us feeling better about ourselves and our impact. I know that at times this will be a challenge but hopefully over time it well become easier. I heard a quote the other day that really set the tone for this resolution..."Things Are The Thieves Of Time". It made so much sense. The more crap we have, the more complicated life gets. I'm really looking forward to making life less complicated and taking advantage of the time we are given each and every day.

Live Simply So That Others Can Simply Live
