Update on the Trap...

Well, we didn't capture a Leprechaun, but we did get a scrap of his jacket that must have been ripped off as he was getting away. Needless to say, Travi was beside himself. He screamed like a 3 year old girl yesterday morning when he saw the trap was down and then chickened out and wouldn't go out. So I went first and poked at the trap and when nothing happened I pointed out the scrap of cloth. He freaked out!! Then he smelled the cloth and told me he thought it smelled like Ireland. I asked him what Ireland smelled like and how he knew and he just looked at me like I was an idiot and told me to smell that piece of the Leprechauns jacket. I think it made his day. Honestly we are so shocked he seriously believes every detail of these kinds of folklore. I really do dread the day when he doesn't believe. Its so much fun to see his smile when all these mythic creatures constantly visit us.

I'm in trouble...

Taylor was taking her bath last night and I was upstairs with her putting new sheets on our bed. When I popped my head in to check on her this is what I found. Thank goodness she was using the wrong side of the razor. When I asked her what she was doing, she replied "What girls do when they take baths, scrap their legs." I couldn't help but laugh. She is just the cutest thing ever and I'm not quite ready for her to be shaving her legs. I want my baby to stay 4 years old forever!

A Trap and a Boat

Travi will be participating in the Raingutter Regatta tomorrow night at the Pack meeting for his Tiger Scouts. He and Trav had to shape and design a boat with sail that will race everyone else. Here is what they came up with. Travi did all of the painting himself and then asked me to write the phrase on the sail that he wanted. We were pretty impressed with his Patriotic theme.






In school he has been learning about simple machines ie: pulleys, levers, etc. So our assignment was to do a simple machine for him to demonstrate in class. Since St. Patrick's Day is coming we designed a Leprechaun trap using a pulley system. Of course, the kids are completely dying to set the trap and see if we catch anything here at the house. We are baiting him with candy and green coins. This morning when I took Travi into school and dropped off the trap in his class, he was beaming with pride over having the biggest, most colorful project. He and Trav developed the idea and spray painted it the "Construction Cone Orange" and I was left with the task of helping him to camouflage the trap to make it more enticing to a Leprechaun.

Gardening Season!

So this year we are going to try and plant a completely Organic garden. Travis is going to be building us a 100 square foot raised bed and we are going to use natural soil and organic seeds. We are really excited about this and are looking forward to what we hope will be a bountiful garden. We went on the hunt this weekend for our seeds and found most of what we wanted. We are going to be planting several varieties of lettuce, several different herbs, carrots, broccoli, green beans, 3 varieties of tomatoes, jalapenos, corn, red potatoes, cantaloupe, and watermelon. Since there is still several weeks of frost to come we started our seedlings this weekend for our jalapenos, bell peppers and tomatoes. We will keep them in the house until early May and then when its safe to plant the rest of our garden we will move them outside to the beds. The kids are very anxious to see everything grow.

What A Weekend!

Spring is finally starting to show its face here on the Cape. The temps. are getting into the high 40's-low 50's and the sun has been shining. We had a really great weekend and we were able to take a walk/bike ride down the Wakeby-Mashpee Pond and just ejoy being outside. We are looking forward to warmer days and being able to get outside some more!

Travi climbed the biggest tree he could find down by the lake

Down at the lake they played at the dock and we had stick races in the water.

It was so nice out we were able to get outside and the kids rode their bikes down to the lake!

Taylor decided to apply a little makeup this morning. She hasn't learned the "Less Is More" aspect of application though.

Training...

Travis ran in the Hyannis Half Marathon a couple of weeks ago in preparation for the Boston Marathon. It was a cold snowy day and he was a bit under the weather but finished the race in about 1 hour 50 minutes and more importantly got a ton of information he can use for his run in Boston.
