Camo Cutie

28 August 2010

We were playing in the backyard and we told Taylor to get dressed and come out with us. This is what you put on. I have no idea what possessed her to wear Travis' camo snow pants or her ruby slippers but I love her sense of style!

More Birds...

OK...its time to air my dirty laundry and admit that I am a bird watching fool. I love seeing the birds come to feed on my deck and I love listening to them in the morning when I drink my coffee. They make me so happy. I look for them all day when I pass by the windows towards the back of the house. If there is one thing I will miss about leaving the Cape, I swear there will only be a few things I miss...it will be my little feathered friends. They are beautiful!

Going even greener...

12 August 2010

So my dad would tell you that I am a tree hugging, earth loving, oatmeal eating freak. He likes to tease me about my attempts at being as green and earth friendly as possible. I wouldn't go as far as to say I am a freak but I would admit to hugging a tree and definitely loving this earth. I will do anything and everything I can to lessen my carbon footprint to help preserve natures beauty for my children and their children to enjoy. I like to think that the lives Travis and I pride ourselves on living will cause a ripple effect. Perhaps someday everyone will understand how doing very little can have a HUGE impact. So this is my next attempt at being a little bit greener. I have already been trying to eliminate the use of plastic lunch baggies from our lives but these will seal the deal. I have been working on making reusable sandwich and snack baggies for the kids lunch. I am going so far as to make stylish ones that even Trav will use at work for his lunch. I think they are going to be great at saving a few extra pennies at the store but more importantly this will remove tons of plastic baggies from the landfills and oceans. My kids get the idea and love them.

So dad I have taken one more step towards totally becoming a "Green Freak"!

An Oriole...finally

Ok, I feel like I'm turning into some kind of crazed bird lady. Honestly, I love watching the birds. I bait and feed them so that we can enjoy seeing them on the back deck. For the last two years that we have lived here, I have tried numerous attempts to get the elusive Orioles to come to my yard. Sliced oranges, grape jelly and tons of bird seed all failed. Out of the blue today something caught my eye outside at my hummingbird feeder. An oriole....

Needless to say I was so happy. I wasn't even trying. I guess birds are almost like love, they come when you least expect it. So here is my proof that I finally got to see one up close. It made my day.
