Lets Recap....

07 October 2013

I figured I would recap the last couple of weeks since I haven't been able to get on here and do it more frequently.  Life has been busy.  Trav is super stressed at work, I am working more hours and the kids are all over the place.  I thought once your kids could sleep through the night, dress themselves, shower on their own and use the bathroom unattended life got easier.  Life just seems to get busier year by year.

So lately, we have been enjoying our favorite comfort foods that pair nicely with beer so that coming home isn't just, coming home.  Its coming home and enjoying the small things.  Some foods just makes you feel better.  They remind you of your childhood, of a favorite loved one you haven't seen in ages or just feel so warm and delicious on a cold day that it makes everything seem better.  For us one of those meals is homemade rolls (recipe courtesy of my mom), broccoli cheddar soup and lemon poke cake (recipe courtesy of my Mema).  Food fixes everything!!!

I love coping with life through food!

Trav took his first buck of the season.  Some might be against hunting or grossed out by it but Trav loves the act of hunting.  He enjoys the effort it takes to hunt, he loves watching the animals in their natural habitat and respects them.  He loves bringing home meat and we like that we know where our food its coming from.  Take note of the gash on his forehead.  There is a great story behind it!!!

Travi competed in his 2nd triathlon this past weekend.  He finished first in his division.  A small secret, he was the only person signed up for the boys individual so there was only first place to be won.  Either way it says alot.  All the other kids signed up for the team event.  Travis completed a 3 mile run, 6 mile bike and 500 yard swim by himself while the other kids each did one event.  As always we are so damn proud of his courage and determination.  He is so much more mentally strong then I could ever be.  He crashed during the bike leg of the event and finished the last 5 miles of the bike and the entire swim with road burn on his arm, leg and a head injury.  I swear my kid is just a badass!!

This picture is courtesy of another mom and I'm not sure what the weird effect is on this picture but Travi loved it so whatever.

I have been searching for the location for our family pictures.  I take a new one each year in the fall and have been trying to find the perfect spot.  This picture is of my Trav posing for me to test the light.  Obviously his face is getting blown out by the sun but I just love this man and its my blog so I can put this picture up for no good reason.  We didn't end up taking pictures this past weekend because I could not get the idea in my mind to come to life.  Unexpectedly though, while Trav and I were running on Sunday I came upon the perfect, most beautiful spot for our pictures.  The weather and light will have to be just perfect but I think they will be beautiful this year.

Lastly, this picture of Sitka Sound.   The sunset this past weekend was stunning.  Some days I feel like I'm going to go crazy living here and then my eyes are opened to its unmistakeable, natural beauty and I know I am living the opportunity of a lifetime.  We took the kids to the beach for dinner, built a fire and enjoyed being out of the house with one another.  We could not have asked for a better send off to the weekend!!
