Boston

So while Lisa and her family were here we headed up to Boston for two days to walk the Freedom Trail, visit the N.E. Aquarium, see the sights of Boston and stop in Plymouth. It was a great time and we walked off at least half of all the calories we consumed up there. The kids did very well and enjoyed the city. We were blessed with beautiful sunny days that were perfect for being outside.


We parked just down from ISC Boston and as we were beginning our trek on the Freedom Trail we were lucky enough to see the CG ship Eagle pulling out of Boston Harbor. During the summer months the vessel is sailed up and down the East Coast by the Cadets at the CG Academy in New London, CT. It was a nice surprise!


We began walking the Freedom Trail at an old burial site and then headed down to the First Church of Christ.

First Church of Christ~Lanterns were hung in the tower of the church to signal "One if by Land and Two if by Sea" on Paul Revere's midnight ride.

The kids just had a great time walking through the city center!


We visited the Aquarium and IMAX theatre in downtown and it was a great time. We all enjoyed the IMAX 3D show and see the marine life up close.






Lastly we left Boston and headed south toward the Cape stopping in Plymouth, MA to see the Mayflower II, Plimouth Plantation and of course Plymouth Rock. Trav and I decided to pass on visiting the Mayflower and Plantation again this time. We were afraid that they would force us to stay as tour guides because we have frequented those spots so many times in the last year. So in the end we hung out on the pier and I stole a kiss!!

What a Surprise and Great Day!

So this year for my birthday I was pleasantly surprised to be invited to my own Surprise Party. Trav and my good friend Tiff planned a party and surprised me completely. Tiff and her husband cooked us and amazing dinner of Ceviche and Kabobs. Tiff also made two cakes, one that was egg free for Taylor and the kids and then a wonderful Blueberry and Lemon cake for me. I was brought to tears that Tiff, Trav and Pete planned and worked to feed all of us and surprise me. I loved having my family and friends together to share good memories with. It feels so good to know that even when you can't always live close to the ones you love the most there are always those few friends who treat you like family.

It was an awesome evening!!

Visit to the Airstation

As always when people come to visit they love to take a trip out to the Airstation to see the facilities. Trav loves taking the kids out to see the planes and let them play on the equiptment. So Lisa's kids were so happy to see the HH-60 and the Falcon Jet that are stationed here, along with all the rescue equiptment used during a rescue. Travi of course never passes up on an opportunity to wear his dads helmet and pose for a photo in the helicopter.

Looks came to Visit

Well we got to enjoy a week long visit from my sister Lisa and her family. We loved having all the kids together to play. Its been about 18 months since we saw them last so it was a great time. We visited the beach twice while they where here. The lake down from our house is just perfect for the kids. It has such a great sandy beach and the water is warm and clear. We all got to work on our suntans, even though Lisa's kids are brown as tar and enjoyed some good swimming.

4th of July

So we had a really great 4th of July. It was a beautiful, sunny day on the Cape. We woke up early that day because the boys were participating in the Sandwich parade with the Cub Scouts. The parade goes through Old Sandwich and was actually a really great parade.



After the parade was over Taylor and I met up with the boys at the Field Day events put on by the town of Sandwich. There are all kinds of water activities to participate in and the Cub Scouts led the National Anthem and Pledge of Alleigence. Of course Travi's favorite was when the fireman attached a sprinkler head to the end of their water hose and make a 50 foot water spout.






We unfortuneately did not see fireworks again this year. I think this is the 5th year in a row. In Kodiak they only shot fireworks off 1 of the 3 years we were there, but it wasn't until about 12:30 am that they do it. Last year we watched them on a TV from our hotel room in Iowa as we moved across country and this year was for nothing other then Trav didn't want to deal with the crowds and traffic. Every weekend on the Cape from Memorial Weekend to Labor Day is flooded with tourists but the 4th of July is just plain crazy. We could not even stomach the thought of dealing with the people. So another year with no show. Maybe next year we will try. The show here on the Cape is supposedly in the top 10 shows in the U.S. So I've been told.

Anyhow, we had a great holiday weekend and Trav has started back to work on 6 months of the night shift. Hope you all had a wonderful Independence Day!!!
