Lets see....this weekend is the Seafood Festival! We started the weekend off by visiting a local bear sanctuary called Fortress of the Bear on Friday. There are currently 5 bears at the sanctuary and they are all stunning. I think I might have enjoyed seeing them even more then the kids. Bears are such a beautiful species. They are shrouded with a feeling of fear but when you are able to watch them lumber around I can't imagine a sense of awe does not follow.
On Saturday we headed into town for the parade and festivities. There were several food vendors as well as Russian dancers and games such as the "Fish Head Toss". Travi could not pass up the opportunity to participate in a fish head toss so Trav abliged.
Another highlight of the day was the SAR Demo preformed by the airstation. I have to say in the past 12 years I have seen more SAR Demos then I can count. It seriously never gets old though. To watch the skilled crew members of the USCG preform is just awesome. The civilian crowds always love to see them and I can't help but feel a sense of pride for my husband and all the airstation crew members who work so vigilantly to stay "Always Ready"!
