Last for the class...

26 October 2010

So tomorrow night I will finish my photography workshop. I feel really good about the things I have learned and hope that it will reflect in my pictures. This last assignment was about capturing Nature and Landscapes. I love, love, love capturing both....almost as much as taking pictures of my kids. The only difference is nature doesn't complain, gripe, grumble and groan while I beg it to not look cheesy and "try to look normal".

One of my most favorite aspects of photographing nature is that while I am out I am not only seeing nature but hearing it. The other day as I walked some conservation land here on the Cape I was taking in the splendor of the peak fall foliage. It almost takes my breath away how much I love the colors. Also, I was hearing leaves rustle, acorns fall from trees, chipmunks scurry and gather those same acorns and so many other things. Days like those I am reminded why sight and hearing are such a precious gift.

So some of these photos are not new. Three of these are old photos from our time in Alaska but I will be sharing them in class because I really think they depict true, raw nature.

~The whale with bear paw tricks is just awesome. No one in class with have anything like this. Its has raw nature written all over it.

~The Eagle Trav and I photographed together on Christmas Day one year in Kodiak. He was so beautiful and the morning sun made him glow and look even more majestic. No one in class will have a photo like this either.

~The glacier and reflecting pond was not even taken by me. Trav took this photo, but what I love it that is shows the use of reflection and captures how untouched and gorgeous Alaska and nature CAN be. Kudos to my honey on this one!!!

The remaining photos I took the past few days on the Cape and one is of Mt. Monadnock in souther New Hampshire.

I am proud of all these photos and think they will be well recieved. I am actually going to miss talking photography with other people instead of rambling on to Trav. It feels good to be around people who share my interest in. I will miss the weekly challenges of homework as well. I have enjoyed "looking" for something. I guess I will just keep taking my camera out the door with me when I leave the house and keep my eye out for inspiration.

~There is only you and your camera. The limitations in your photography are in yourself, for what we see is what we are.”
