Snowboarding!

19 January 2009

On Saturday we took a trip up to Mt. Sunapee in New Hampshire to go snowboarding. This ski resort is about 2 1/2 hours from our house and was a really nice drive. On the way up Trav and I were talking and we didn't realize how long it had been since we had even seen a hill, let alone mountains. Cape Cod and the surrounding areas are pretty flat to say the least. So needless to say, being back in the woods and mountains was a nice treat. Travi decided to try snowboarding and was very excited when he saw the board that his dad rented for him. They started out their day at the bunny slopes so Travi could get an idea of the basics and then after about 40 minutes Trav took him up the smaller of the two mountains. When he came back to the lodge where Taylor and I were at he couldn't talk fast enough to tell his stories.

Trav was able to get some good runs in as well, while Travi thawed at with me. Which leads me to Taylor and myself, sitting inside the Lodge for 6 hours because she refused to go outside. When we got to the the mountain it was -5 and she was non to happy with these conditions. So the girls stayed inside and watched movies, painted our nails and colored. Not exactly how I had envisioned my ski trip but I had a feeling this would be the outcome. All in all, it was a great day and the boys had fun.

As you can imagine Travi's snowboarding stories grew by leaps and bounds from the time he got off the mountain to when we got home. He went from starting on the bunny slopes to practically qualifying for the X-Games. He still has the brochure showing the map of the different trails you can go down. Today he showed me some of the runs he went on which included Double-Diamond trails, with jumps, that started on the summit. He has decided that since he has already succeeded at snowboarding he will go ahead and try skiing next time. That kid is hilarious!!!

I love it!!!! We are hoping to get Charli out on some skis this winter. Her first time!! My parents live 10 minutes from a ski resort so if it doesn't go well we can take her home to their house.
